Apart from her processing challenges, student A struggled with productivity, anxiety and confidence due to her dyslexia and visual disturbances. Learning to touch type with KAZ helped in the following ways.

Student A’s anxiety prevented her from effectively using dictation software. However, learning to touch type accommodated her getting her thoughts onto the screen quickly and easily.

KAZ’s specialised Preference Screen, developed with advice and guidance from the Dyslexia Research Trust, offers customisable settings such as filter colours to minimise blurring and stabilise letter movement and dyslexia-friendly fonts. It settled student A’s visual disturbances, allowing her to learn the skill comfortably.

The course’s structured Accelerated Learning teaching method taught her to touch type quickly and in bite-size modules so not to overload her working memory or cause anxiety. Its multi-sensory approach simultaneously engaged her major senses of sight, sound and touch, radically enhancing memory retention and recall.

The subconscious skill allowed her to focus on the content she was typing without having to think about where the keys were located. It removed a barrier, reducing the cognitive load associated with typing, or as previously, dictation software, and made it easier for her to concentrate on her thoughts.

KAZ’s Speed Builder module allowed her to dip in for short daily practice sessions to build her speed and accuracy.

Typing progress:

Before learning to touch type, student A’s Assessor asked her to take a speed test on the free typing test available on the KAZ website. Her typing speed was recorded at 17 w.p.m.

After three weeks she was typing at 38 w.p.m.

After six weeks, she was consistently achieving 52 w.p.m.

This effectively reduced her workload to a third, saving an impressive 200% of her time!

Her new-found skill and increased productivity helped her cope with her workload. It boosted her confidence, automatically reducing her anxiety.

What student A had to say:

“The KAZ course allowed me to develop and increase my typing speed dramatically within just a few weeks. I now prefer and have the confidence to take my own notes, and I am able to complete my assignments much faster than before. Whilst I still use other software, I feel touch typing is one of the most valuable skills I have learned.”
